PROVIDENCE SPEECH AND HEARING CENTER SHATTERS RECORD

Despite constant headlines blaming a sour economy as the downfall for philanthropic giving, more than $110,000 in net proceeds were raised in nonprofit organization's 25th Annual Golf Classic at Tustin Ranch Golf Club.

ORANGE, Calif.-June 22, 2009 - In a time of deep recession and widespread economic concerns, a near-miracle fundraiser beat the odds and raised a record amount, almost twice as much as last year, and surpassed the $100,000 mark for the first time.

Providence Speech and Hearing Center , an Orange County nonprofit organization since 1965, netted over $110,000 in proceeds in its 25th Annual Golf Classic June 15 at Tustin Ranch Golf Club.

"That's a record here at Providence," said Christina Webb , longtime Director of Marketing for Providence Speech and Hearing Center and this year's tournament director. "It's the first time we know of to have surpassed the $100,000 mark. We netted $66,000 last year. So despite the economy we blew it away this year. Blood, sweat and tears. But we did it."

With sponsors, a capacity playing field of 144 amateurs and generous supporters in the live and silent auctions, the quarter-century-old golf tournament drained more aces than anyone playing in the U.S. Open at Bethpage in Farmingdale, N.Y.

"This record is a tribute to our incredibly dedicated and hard-working staff," Providence Speech and Hearing Center Chief Executive Officer Linda Smith said.

Also this year, Providence Speech and Hearing Center was named by the Children & Families Commission of Orange County as the lead agency in Orange County in a collaborative planning process to improve speech and language services for young children. The one-year agreement begins July 1.

The mission of Providence Speech and Hearing Center is enriching life through the gifts of speech and hearing.

While approximately 28 million Americans have a hearing impairment, few are aware of the benefits that nonprofit organizations such as Providence Speech and Hearing Center can provide their families. Through grants, scholarships and financing options, Providence serves adults and children, including those from low-income families with an inability to pay. Providence also accepts most major insurances and medical groups.
